And regarding the diff.... The wagons got a spicier 3.27 gearset. Already blew one up doing some sliding, so we will see how this one does. My transmission was replaced with an MB rebuilt unit approx 50k miles ago, so I think I should be good there as well. My engine came out of a car with approx 100k miles, and have since put approx 30k miles on it.

I am reading the threads, and making notes on what to do, and what not to do! But, with this being said, I cannot wait to get started!
OM603 exhaust manifold is a bolt on to the M103, just FYI. Not sure how the crossover pipe might come into play there but some creative welding and routing using an existing EM would save a lot of time and money over a custom one.

Would the OM603 turbo EM perform good enough for a small boost setup like what this thread (and myself) would like?

Reason is that I saw one at a local junkyard here in pheonix, so should I grab it for the future?

I think it would be fine - even an older OM603 is pushing over 10psi stock easily (my OM617 puts out 12psi, for comparison) with the same displacement or higher for the 3.5L rodbenders so 7psi shouldn't be much of an issue. I don't have one in front of me so I can't measure the IDs and calculate the flow but I imagine the highest restriction aside from the turbo is the crossover pipe which you'd have to eliminate anyways since it won't bolt right to the M103 IM. I imagine you'd probably want to put a FMIC in as well so the crossover would be eliminated there, and of course a boost controller and BOV. A lot of math can be done to calculate the amount of air needed by the diesel along with the higher compression, etc. a proper fluids engineer would probably have this in an instant but I'd have to look it all up . Nice thing about it is a good turbo, OM603 manifold and downpipe can be had very cheaply, and most from our diesels are in good condition.

Already have the manifold, fuel injection stuff, intercooler, and piping.

Need time to get it all together.

What turbo are you planning to use?

Give a good read through this....You need to read the compressor map to find the best turbo for your setup. Based on my calculations above, the Garett T04E compressor in 60 trim would net you 75% efficiency

The 603 manifold doesn't just "bolt up". You either have to swiss cheese the manifold for the 103 exhaust bolt pattern or fashion an adapter. The latter isn't as easy as it sounds as I have a set of adapters I designed and just recently had waterjet cut. I'm in the process of finish machining them and will be in the shop this evening continuing to work on them. I'll post pictures once I have them finished.

Exactly what I did and it works great even with 1bar boost .

You're right, a direct bolt on is a bit mesleading. The mounting holes are a couple mm off so they have to be redrilled, but other than that it fits well.

Not trying to nit pick ya but I've got a lot of work in an adapter set that will "bolt up" the 603 manifold.

One thing I noticed that I have not seen mentioned is that the 603 manifold ports are 1mm smaller than the 103 exhaust ports. Not a big deal unless you intend to boost it hard and rev it high. Since I'm planning a low boost / quick spool setup myself, I like it.

EDIT: Here's one of the 4 adapter flanges...

How much would it cost to make a setup like this on a budget do you think for all parts?

I just had a thought...what about using the cold start valve location for an additional injector?

its too close to the valves to provide an equal mix
