Question 560 SEC Spring Conversion Possible???

560 SEC Spring Conversion Possible???
The Hydraulic suspension on the SEC is due for a rebuild but before I do I was just wondering if any of you had heard about a conversion to regular springs/shocks that is available for a 126. I know that on my old Range Rover they sell a conversion kit that lets you replace the air lift with regular hard springs/shocks. Is there such a kit for an SEC?? If there is a kit is there a performance kit? Anyway, I think that I am probably just dreaming but I was curious if any of you had heard of such a thing. Thanks in advance for any response. F Grey

well there are such kits in existence but an expert can accomplish this even without a kit.. BUT..its best to keep the hydraulic especially on a coupe.. i did the conversion once on my 560SEL and regretted it.. the handling of hydraulic is second to none.. reverting back to hydraulic was too much expense and near impossible.. i ended parting the car out for parts and experiments..

It can be done..never new of any 'kit' per-say.. But, if you were going to go that route I would purchase a set of H&R springs for a NON self leveling car as well as a full set of Bilstein shocks (i'm partial to the HD's, I run them in everything). You will need to do one of two things w/ the hyd. pump for the self leveling, either A, remove it and purchase the cover and gasket (makes the most sense) or, B, loop the system so it just circulates hyd. fluid around.

As an aside, I have never removed the system..some have and liked it, other (as mentioned above) have not. Personally, I think the cars handle great w/ a bit of modification to the springs and shocks. If you remove the system, the new springs will put a bit of a rake into the car so that when you have a trunk load of stuff the rear won't sag etc..

Hope that helps!

Jonathan
