M103 / M104 EDIS trigger wheel system
 
Hi everyone,
Just want to let you know about this trigger wheel system I designed that works off the cam and replaces the distributor cap (M104 from 1990-1992, and all M103).

I started this project almost 4 years ago but, it got put on the back burner as other things got in the way.

I've finally got some time to put into this and finish this project.

I'm in the process of turbo charging my 300TE 1989 wagon, and to do it I wanted to use megasquirt and EDIS to be the ignition system.

I wasn't impressed with the current options of triggering off the crank and I felt using the cam would be a neater, easier install.

I'm also making the exhaust manifold to suit a T3/T4 hybrid turbo.

I haven't been on this website for a long time as like I said other life issues got in my way.

If anyone is interested in this trigger wheel system I will put together a package so you can bolt on and hook it up to your megsquirt or EDIS.

Looks fantastic.

Is this setup like having a crank mounted 36-1? Just doubled and cam mounted?

That's correct.
I'll have a vid of it running in the next couple of weeks. I have to move my workshop to another location, once I have that up and running I should be able to finish this up.

No problem, the move is finished and I'm a bit sore, now I need to set it up.
First thing is to put the hoist up.
So by end of this week, fingers crossed I'll have some video.

Consider an option eliminating the second missing tooth, this would provide a 72-1 wheel at cam speed, which Redline, MS3 and likely other systems support.
(MS2E if it was only a 4 banger)

It allows fully sequential operation (spark and fuel) using one sensor.
On systems with little play or oddball loads in the distributor drive the timing is rock steady.

(Not where the oil pump is also in the mix, but with enough teeth even that is likely to cause only a tiny variance)

This could certainly be done, but as I'm using the EDIS module I will be leaving it as a dual 36-1 setup.

Sequential injection is something that isn't worth the effort on aftermarket ecu's. Unless you need it to pass emissions.

OK, have all the stuff amassed to lose my jetronic mechanical injection and run MSII. All I'm missing is a trigger system (hint hint)..... :-)

If you're considering doing just ignition only, I'd suggest Megajolt. It's cheaper and quicker to get going than MSII (just a few wires instead of a full harness).

Thx for the tip; doing both and already have complete MSII w/harness. Twin turbo slated for my 90 300CE after Jetronic goes by the wayside. Lookout Pumpish; here I come....... :-)

Nope, fuel/air too. Already have MSII w/harness; twin turbos slated in phase II. Pumpish, here I come.... :-)
