Suspension with an engine swap

I am doing an engine swap in my 190E and i am putting an M103 engine in to replace the old 4cy. My question is that i obviously will have to change out the springs. Do i only need to change out the front springs? I am planning on getting stiffer lowering springs and i was wondering if i would only need 190E 2.6 springs for the front and then i could use the 190E 2.3 lowering springs in the back. Do i need to use the 2.6 springs all the way around?

If you have changed the weight at any corner of the vehicle you will need revised spring rates to compensate. I would get the car weighed upon completion of the motor/trans install and then get a spring manufacturer to make you a set of springs based on the revised weight and existing spring specs. I don't think they are that expensive.

Matt.

How expensive is not that expensive. Are we talking like $500 for a custom set?

you may wish to investigate if the 190E 2.6 had chassis/suspension/brake/steering upgrades vs. the 4 banger and seek to upgrade to these misc parts as a starting platform as well...

This is all part of a project that will make my 4 banger into an inline 6 twin turbo. So this is all relavant to my one car.

you could always convert to 2.5" eibach springs and coil overs. there are about 3 trillion different; lengths and rates. and coil overs give you the ability to set the ride height, and set the corner wieghts

Stiffer springs

When I installed my Ford small block into my 190 I weighed each corner and found I was about 20lbs. lighter than a 2.6. Considering the weight of a 2.6 vs. a 3.0 with the same block, I'd just get a set of Eibach springs for a 2.6. With a set like this you'll find that the rear spring rates are changed very little as the most weight differences are in the front. I'd also recommend that you change the front sway bar to a minimum of a 300TE to a 400E to a 500E in steps. My 190/5.6 ended up being 53%/47%
with a total weight of 2988lbs. with the battery in the trunk over the right rear wheeel naturally!

Do you know where i could get a set of eibach 2.6 springs because eibach doesn't make them anymore. Why should i change the sway bar in steps?

Sorry for the confusion

What I was suggesting are the varying stiffness of the bars available from weakest(thinest) to stiffest (thickest). Your choice!!
190/2.3 stock
190/Sportline heavier
300E next thicker
300TE or Sportline thicker again
400E thicker than previous
500E thickest yet

Did you send those pictures to me?

George,
Sorry, they probably will go out tomorrow, Friday. I didn't get back as expected and had to have extra copies of the prints made to send you.
