I am sure the splines are the same diameter and everything but length of the spline could be different and if I remember is. The length of the shafts is much different. You are not going to drop in 140 axles into your car. Honestly again unless you are going to put tires and suspension and launch this thing hard then do not bother with any of this. Avoid wheel hop and you will not have problems with the stock parts. I have put down over 700lb/ft of torque to the wheels on stock parts with no problems. Just not launching hard from a stop.

Somewhere I have a growing list of axle lengths by distance between the boots. Sure , knowing compressed and expanded would be better but that would be too difficult when they are installed.

I do know that there are many, many axles in the MB inventory. Looking at a 94 / 00 W202 C class, axle diameter was increased on ASR cars but length remained the same.

Here are some rear end part numbers I've dug up between actual parts and the net.

95- 97 SL320 ( also 97 E320 / C280?)

198 mm 1.1 L

Housing 210 351 08 05 ( does not have side covers )

Rear cover 129 350 08 36

Carrier 202 350 00 23

Axle flange 220 350 25 45

Axle shaft 210 350 09 56

Prop flange 220 350 22 45

Flex disc 170 410 00 15 ( 3 bolt 100 mm )

~~~~~~~~~~
?
92 - 94 SL320
210 mm 1.3 L
Housing 129 351 04 05 non ASR ( has side covers )
Housing 129 351 05 05 ASR ( has side covers )
Rear cover 129 351 16 08
Carrier 140 350 27 23 ( not sure if ASR or non ASR )
Axle flange 129 350 08 45
Axle flange 129 350 09 45 ( ASR )
Axle shaft 129 350 38 10
Axle shaft 129 450 41 10
Prop flange 211 350 02 45
Flex disc 170 410 00 15 ( 3 bolt 100 MM )
From looking at different part suppliers online, it looks like the 140 axle is 7mm or 8mm longer than the 129 axle.
This car will get slicks, not launched to hard, tired of trying to push broken cars from the staging lights. Gonna roll into it with big turbo and nitrous, should be able to hit 10s easy.
I know it sounds like a pipe dream, but I bought the car and am building it to race, while trying to use mercedes components. Plan is to be the fastest r129 in the world, maybe fastest benz. It will get caged, no interior, no soft top, tons of weight chopped off.
One day I'd like to race these guys, there in my area.
Obviously a long way out, but the time will come.
If you are just shooting for high 10s then you dont need 60' if you are making big hp. Similar weight cars have run 1.6 60'. I have run a lot of 1.8 60' with no problems.
This guy custom built my axles with 4340 shafts and the custom shortened length I required to put a 129 diff in a 107. They were not too expensive. https://www.rcvperformance.com/
I'm about to have a new set built.
