Exterior lighting upgrades done cheap.

W116 LED Halo Conversion

LED strips on outside curves of original headlamp reflector.
hi/lo shield painted blue to match the blue caps on PIAA bulbs..gives her 'blue eyes' in the day time.

Next step: Upgrade fog lamp reflector to accept a lensed H11 65Watt bulb. ..stay tuned

So, with the car out of service for a while, I've taken some time to 'improve' the forward lighting electrical system. The current headlamp setup runs power for the lights directly thru the headlamp switch, which as we all know, is hard on the terminals and the current loss thru all that wire, to me, defies logic and isn't how it 'should' have been done.

The power modification is that the power feed wires that come from the fuse box, will be used to switch a series of relays (Hi,Lo,fog and marker) which in turn switch power from a series of circuit breakers, then to the loads (bulbs).

As seen in my first post there are now LED strips on the outer edges of the headlamp reflector, and the bulb shroud is painted blue to cast a blue reflection in the reflector when it is off.

The next series of photos outline the old assemblies, their wiring nightmares, as well as show you the headlamp frames which I've modified to accept a different type fog lamp reflector that is not as susceptible to moisture and corrosion as the old ones were.

I have yet to attach the mounting arms with spacers to the new fog reflector, Shims are required because the old fog-lamp is wider and shorter than the taller narrower upgrade. Also because the new reflector is taller, material had to be removed inside the fog-lamp opening to accommodate the new part. This reflector is also HID compatible

The circuit that operates the 'city' lamp, LEDS and marker light, has been separated to allow the city and LEDS to be lit independently of the marker lights. This then would cause the curb lamp settings to lite only the four amber corners (LED upgrades for those too soon) as opposed to the city lamps.

There are easy to install led strips that can be helpful in the car. A good kind is a rv led step lights that is helpful in the dark.
