300E Mossellman Supercharger
Hi guys:
Well it finally hit -- I want to go faster. Before I can afford a 500E proper or a C43, C36 or E55, I want to install this supercharger on my 1987 300E 12V. I've just restored this car so it wouldn't make sense to sell it for 5 to 7 years and I may as well have fun with it in the mean time. Doing some research, I found that Mossellman does indeed make a bolt on super charger kit for the 12V M103 Inline6 that comes with my car. It offers an increase of 95 hp from 188 to 292 hp and a 60% increase in torque from 188 ft/lbs to 353 ft/lbs. While I want to install this unit -- the lowest price on it I found was in MA at RPM Motor Sport for $5,000.00 plus s/h. Does any one know where to get this supercharger for less? And has anyone done this conversion yet? I propose to install new rotors and used calipers from a 400E (could someone tell me from what year, and, if possible, what the part numbers are?); a 500E front sway bar and a Sportline rear sway bar, each with new bushings; and, of course, 16"x 7.5" 5 Hole OE wheels. This set up would produce a horsepower to weight ratio of 11.7 compared to the C43's 11.4, and should yeild a 0 to 60 time of about 5.9 seconds. With no discounts, doing the work myself I estimate 7 or 8 grand. Does this sound right? Any opinions, help or directions on accomplishing this conversion for the least amount of money and doing the work myself (a reasonably competent guy -- but not an auto pro) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Marc Restored Obsidian Black/ Palomino MB-Tex 87300E; have the sway bars, bushings and wheels. I've already scraped the pre-cat's in favor of a Time Valve S.S. header unit with one modern cat, and plan to install a S.S. cat back system (either the y pipe and muffler with no resonator from Time Valve, or, another system that you guys may recomend). It a lot of money... but if you can get 5.9s 0-60 then maybe.
Still... I would probably supercharge a 400E or something with more power to start with. Just remeber in comparison to the car's value how much you are spending. If you go for it it will be one insane sleeper. :p Whatever you do... (I would go for it just because) document it in this forum and let us know what happens. Good Luck. ![]() - Arju

Black C43 AMG Coming Friday!!!
Hi all!
Well my previous post, in retrospect was ridiculous. It would never be financially reasonable to spend all that money on supercharging an 87 300E; although, if done well, it would be one hell of a sleeper! Luckily the local Benz dealer called me up. I had put my name on the waiting list for a slightly used C36 AMG, C43 AMG or an older E55 AMG. He said a Blk on Blk 1999, C43 AMG was returned off lease in perfect condition with 40K miles on the clock. I bought it for $36K. A pretty good deal I think because, the dealer gave me $9K for my restored 87 300E ($2 or $3 grand over blue book -- the car has about 200K on it). I'm very excited, the C43 is being prep'd and I should receive it on Friday, detailed, w/ new pads, tires and fluids. When I took it out for a second drive I fell in love with it and had to have it. If anyone in this forum has one of these I would love to hear about it and learn as much about this car as you know. Thanks Marc C43 AMG [email protected] |
