C43 Speed
Hi all:
I'm thinking of adding the Renntech Statge II package to my 1999 C43 AMG. I costs about $3,500.00 and consits of a new enlagarged hi-flow air induction system with hi-flow filters and a re-programed ECU for a gain of 25 BHP and 32 lbs-ft to 327 hp @ 5850 and 334 lbs-ft @3250 over stock. Do the you guys think that this a worthwhile improvement over the K&N filters I already have in the car? or should I really wait until I can afford the $17,000.00 Stage III package that consists of an AMG supercharger and intercooler to bring the car to 408 hp @ 5800 and 440 ft-lbs @ 2400-5000? Might it be more reasonable to spend $2,000.00 on the Renntech ECU upgrade and keep the K&N's to start with? I wonder if the ECU upgrade is required for and/or a part of the Supercharger upgrade (i.e. would I lose money by upgrading the car Stage by Stage in the Renntech program)? Any less expensive but just as effective alternatives? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Go get a Kleemann compressor. You will have about 440hp with that. RennTech does wonderful work but an airbox and a chip should not cost $3500. Don't use K&N, the oil will destroy MB's air sensor. I rather have a new OEM filter in my car than a dirty performance filter. ITG is better but the best would be just getting a new air filter every year or so. Kleemann has the best stuff out there right now. RennTech's superchargers sits next to the engine, Kleemann sits right on top just like the SL55. RennTech does nice work but most of it is just bought from germany and marked up. I have a friend who has an MKB car imported from Germany that really will shame anything that RennTech offers.

Donnie gave me the following quote on a Kleemann supercharger and suspension for a C43, using the stock wheels and brakes:
"The supercharger on the C43 would be faster than the Z06. I could do one on this car for about $18,000 or so. The suspension will work great with the stock tires and wheels. The cost installed is about $2,500. This will be a very reliable, drivable, comfortable 450hp. Donnie"
