2. Only race VW Vangons, Ford Fiestas and 190E 2.3 8 valves. 3. Seriously, tune your car. Keep the injectors clean, gap the plugs right, check timing, fuel, oil/air/tranny filter & fluids, use the "premium" gas, and for gosh sakes, make sure all the suspension bits and brakes are in top shape. If you're foolish enough to street race, make sure you don't take out anyone else. |

well the thing is there are some people around here that have nos and stuff and they win alot i want to be able to spank them but on 190s the air fuel mixture isnt regulated like most cars is it like you get more air in the engine and the car wont put more fuel with it will it

MT1 said it all. Get your car to the best tumed condition and enjoy it that way. Unless you have very serious money to through at it, forget about a measurable increase in performance. Your car has not been designed to win street races and no small amount of money will turn it into a drag queen (should I say king?). The enjoyment you get from a car should not be based on how many street race you win.

To get the most hp for the $$ get a turbo kit. And be prepared to spend ALL of your money on engine/tranny/diff repairs..
If you really want a fast 190E, get an EVO. Freestyler

Again , everything is possible and feasable.
The best modification would be to sqeeze-in a Slk55 engine/transmission/differential combination. I can assure you no one will ever, under any circumstances mess with you again. But the cost would be over 10 times the value of your car. The only question is how big is your budget . JackD |

Do not use a higher octane fuel than you need. You will get the best performance from the lowest octane of fuel that your engine can take without pinging. It is a common misconception that premium is better. It isn't in all situations.

Nothing wrong with wanting more. That's what tuning is all about. But it takes time and money. Of course it might take less time if you have more money, right guys? You want to race? Fine, go to your local SCCA club or other track group and find out about auto-X or enroll in a driver training school. |

Jackd- I didn't know they came out with an SLK55 yet!
Seriously, I assume you ment an SL55? How much would one of those motors go for, and how would you go about obtaining one?! |

Ok, lets step back and be honest for a moment. Mike190e, it sounds like you're a young kid interested in making cool cars go fast. Great! Nothing better than toasting some guy through an intersection. Go buy a Honda. I'm serious now, heres why. To get the sort of performance you want you can either pour upwards of 8k (to do things right) into your 190 or less than half of that to get equal performance out of a honda. Aftermarket parts for a 10 year old 190 are mostly un-available, or outrageously expensive, and the polar oposite is true of Hondas. Don't even let me get started on finding a decent mechanic for the benz, much less one who is interested in making them go faster. Do yourself a favor, get yourself a car you can easily modify; you'll be happier with it in the end, and you'll be more pleased with yourself too. Honest.

I disagree with spending $8k to make my 10+ years benz as fast as a Honda. I am spending about $4k and I expect to "Blow" the Hondas away. I see the kids come in and spend up to 20k trying to make their Honda go fast. It is all about the way you go about building the car. It is true that Honda parts are more available.
I am use to making custom parts for all my cars. Even Hondas I rarely buy off the shelf items. I make them. But there is nothing more satisfying than driving a fast Benz! I don't feel safe in a Honda. Been in too many accidents with them and prying out people out of them. Tired of racing them. Also when working on them getting all cut up with the sharp edges. Don't get me wrong. I have been modifying Hondas for 25+ years. from 600+HP 4 cylinder VTEC motors to 1600cc 185HP NA motors. To get the HP still cost $$. Hopefully soon I will have a not too expensive answer for power for the 190e/300e owners. |
