E320 W124 pad question for my suspension setup...

Ok, I have H&R springs, and Bilstein sport shocks, since saturday the 18th, and I've put about 300 miles since.

The car has #2 pad on the front and #3 in the rear. The front wheel gap is about 1 finger gap, the rear gap, is about 2 finger gap.

I want the car to be evenly leveled.

So if I do a #2 and #2 for both front and rear, would it fix it? or if it doesn't and I go 2 and 1, and say it worked, would it still be ok, even if the higher pad is in the front.

Finally, what if I go #1 pad all around, what would that do?

thanks! :)

Mike

ps: how much height does a pad change between numbers?

I'm sorry I can't help you on you pad question, but I noticed in your other thread that you are taking the car back to that shop in Walnut to get it adjusted.

I live in Diamond Bar which is next door to Walnut.

Let me know when you're gonna be there and I'll stop by to say hello.

If it's the morning of the GTG BBQ on the 8th, maybe we can caravan to Alon's house.

Hey! Yes it's in the morning of the BBQ gtg on the 8th! :) Im hoping to get there really early (10-11) so that means I have to leave here at about...6pm tops. Long drive!

So you are going to leave Santa Barbara at 6 a.m. (not 6 p.m.) and head for the shop in Walnut?

That means you'll get there around 8:30-9:00-ish?

I'll be finalizing the time for the bbq. we will probably start at 11 am. and go till whenever.

I'm actually in San Luis Obispo, 1 to 1.5 hrs away from Santa Barbara.

To answer your question...

I have the same pad set-up that you have (2-3). The reason I picked that set up was because I did not want the rear to go too low. Since you can not adjust the rear camber and going any lower would make the car look like this /-o-\ from behind. Even with the 3 bump set up in the rear the car has a slight (-) camber. However, even if you look at the stock MB's, they also have a slight camber problem, specially if they are full of people. If you want it level, I would go 3-3 unless you want a slammed look and don't mind changing tires more often. :(

So J.HIDALGO, your rear is higher than your front then?

J.HIDALGO 01-24-2003 02:49 AM

Yes,

Slightly!

haha ok same here. I think a 2-2 setup for the pads will even out everything nicely :)

Dr AMG
In other thread, you mentioned you pay $120 to install the springs, where is it in Walnut, what is the name.
I also read somewhere in this forum, even the pads are 5 mm difference from each other, because of the geometry setup of tires, spings and pivit point, actully you are looking at 10mm difference at the tires (Hopfully I am reading that thread right). My 89 300E is lowered with H&R and #3/front, #?/rear pads, stock shocks, the car looks to me have higher front end which I really don't like. The camber at back is also off at -2. something degree which has NOT caused that much of problem now.

chc, the place is called TWS, The Wheel Supply, a place frequented by most of if not ALL Los Angeles area members of BNZsport.com.

My front is almost right on the wheel well, but the rear isn't. I h ave #2 front and #3 rear. So Saturday I will go back down for the gtg and stop by to get #1 pads all around, to give an even more aggresive stance, and hopefully lose the rear gap.

Gaps are as follow currently: 1 finger or so in the front, 2 fingers in the rear. W/ a full tank of gas, the rear drops down to 1 finger and 1/2-3/4 or so.

www.thewheelsupply.com Ask for Sander, tell him Mike from San Luis Obispo referred you to him. :)

Ashman 02-04-2003 05:13 PM

so mike does the rear gap get bigger when you are in the car?

Maybe its my wheel offset but

But when I wore 1's on the back after changing out my springs to Eibachs, It wore tires out like a be-'ACH! as my signature states, I wear the AMG's Aero I's in 17x8 now with Michelin Pilot Sports 245X40X17 and 3 bump pads. Its still pretty fierce on tires, but as soon as I pay the tax man, I'm gonna get the rear camber struts. Its an awsome ride with the tire/wheel setup. I got a sweet deal on the Mich's for ~$750 for the set so I really gotta hurry up and get the rear end fixed. I warn you in advance, you will probably experience premature tire wear at your current set up and even more extreme wear going bump 1 in the rear. But again, mine could be being exaggerated by the offset of these wheels

Alon when I go in my car it drops to the ground! lol

aldedmon, I'll have to wait and see what happens!
