I believe you could jumper pins 1 and 6 in your diagnostic connector, this would disable ABS and ASR. This works on the 500e, never tried a E420 though.

E_420 09-20-2007 02:02 AM

Where is that? Do I need to buy any code reader things? Where are the jumper pins?

Hey, I'm only a couple years late to this thread..... Got any more kits for sale? Or does anyone have one they never installed? I am in need!

Thanks,

Me too.

This is the 500E CAN box

Directly to the right of the box, is a large round connector, this is the diagnostic connector.

The "performance chips" for the 1992-1995 400E/E420 won't give you any measureable horsepower, no matter what the vendors claim. However, they may get rid of the cold upshift delay, and/or remove the top-speed limiter. The infamous "eBay" chip cured Rik's upshift delay, and (possibly) may have removed my speed limiter. (See note below.) If either of those things interest you, for ~$75 it wouldn't hurt. But don't expect ANY power gains.

Note: My car is de-limited with the eBay chip AND a different LH module. However, I don't know if the chip is responsible for the de-limiting, or if the stock chip in the same LH module would also be de-limited. So, I can't say for sure the eBay chip does that. I would like to confirm that someday...

Hey GSXR,
Care to share any info on your "different LH module"? I'd be interested to find out what you have done.
Thanks!
Adam

Adam, for the 500E/E500, a 1992 LH module will provide WOT enrichment, good for a solid 7hp gain when installed in a 1993/1994 car. Since mine is a 1994, I got a 1992 module (actually, a "Euro" module, used in 91/92 models) and did extensive dragstrip testing to confirm that yes, it actually provides a power gain. Since your 500E is a 1992, you've already got the "good" LH module. I've got my extra 1992 module for sale at the moment if anybody is interested in it. I currently have the 1992 module in my car with the eBay chip.

BTW - the above info is for the 500E/E500 only, with the 5.0L M119 engine. I have NO idea if LH module swapping can provide power gains on the 400E/E420 with the 4.2L engine.

What about this?

i know it's $250 but if it gives me anything ill buy it. Could you give me a link for the "ebay chip"? Or anyone who has one for sale.

E_420 09-21-2007 03:35 PM

Nope, that's an LH module for a 5.0L... pretty sure that won't work for your 4.2L.

For the eBay chip, search eBay for "Mercedes 400E chip". Here's a link to a current auction:

Where do i instal it? Does it just snap in place?

EliotW 09-23-2007 01:59 AM

Essentially, yes. Have you ever changed a CPU in a motherboard?
