No speed limit in Mexico... sometimes !

130 MPH / 210 KPH in my 1986 300E on the "Autopista del Sol" from Mexico City to Acapulco. It was Sunday 4:30 AM and at that time cops are usually sleeping and dreaming.

Belive it or not is a great toll road highway in Mexico where you can normally drive at 90-100 MPH without having problems with the law.

162 MPH

162 is the fastest speed in my 71 TransAm, this was just as I started to pulled away from a Porsch dual turbo at 100MPH. Auto built by me and driven daily, running street trim at 13 sec through the 1/4 mile, 18 MPG hwy, record setter for 2 ys. Fastest 1/4 mile 10.56, another auto, blower and nitros, this was before they put you in jail for this sort of thing. Spin out on interstate in Neb. at over 100 MPH and not a scratch. Donuts downtown main street Lexington, KY, did not get caught. Hit the left hand ditch well over 100 MPH on a two lane blacktop in MO as passing a long line of cars and someone decides to pop out in front of me. And many more, always wondered why I am still here to write this. How many times out running police, many, many, never caught, statues have run out, can't get me now.

No speed limits in the Philippines too!

Did 260+ kph (approx 160 mph) on the C36. Speed limiter did not come on as it is supposed to at 155 or is my speedo optimistic?

:D

blackmercedes 02-07-2002 01:44 PM

I saw 260 indicated in our C36, but realistically you've got to factor in the speedo error at about 5% or so.

250 "real" would be 262 indicated.

I talked to AMG about "uncorking" the C36, and they indicated that the factory speed limiter would hold the car to 250-253 km/h depending on tire deformation etc..

Without the speed limiter, a stock 268hp four-speed C36 will run to 275 according to AMG. Their parts are expensive for the occasional run, though, so I didn't buy.

120 MPH in my father's 1975 280, brown, on the Newport RI Bridge, downhill side, with all the windows and sunroof open, and four other teenagers, all of them screaming at me, 15 years ago. And yes, the new multiple limit teenager in a vehicle laws in Washington State are a VERY good idea.

I've pegged my 1980 VW Pickup, peg is at 85 MPH. Estimate 95 MPH (OK it has nearly double original HP with an '85 GTI motor). Seattle. I90 tunnel, Westbound.

Optimistic speedo

Yes, I figured the speedo to be optimistic since the speed limiter did not come on.

My old BOSS Mustang's speedo was also wildly optimistic, indicating about 8-10% over the actual speed as per radar.

150 - 02 C32 - superbowl sunday on the way to watch the game - after just (finally) passing 1k miles

Matt Crooke 03-12-2002 08:34 AM

Just under the 200mph mark on a Brands Hatch day in an F1 car.

135mph in my old Rover Sterling.

The most frightening though was my mates Vauxhall Cavalier SRi. Doing about 140...when the rear offside tyre burst...not amusing.

Howdy All,
I thought I would come to the land of speed and see what is going on. These speeds aren't the fastest I've gone. It's the vehicle that makes it interesting (funny). The fastest I've gone in my 1961 404.1 Unimog is 60mph. Now the following is from a fellow Mogger that took his Mog to a drag strip to run what you brung 1/8mile. Top speed was 37.895mph. ET was 17.469sec.He also had a dragshoot pop out to slow him down. The Camero that he raced against had a speed of about 88mph and an ET in the 7second range. Well back to the ML,G & Mog forum :)

Outside of a jet, my fastests speed are:

- 208 in a modified Viper (timed course), not scary at all
- 200 + in a 935, not sure but around 210, very scary car, nosed all over
- 187 in my turbo NSX (should be faster now), no problems
- got a ticket years ago for going 158 in a 930; had slowed down a little
- my C43 won't go over 155, but it gets there pretty quickly

300E POLL:

Out of curiousity, whats the fastest you guys have gone in a 300E with the m103 engine? I personally haven't had the chance to push mine to it's limits yet, but I would love to hear other people's results. I've heard they can run up in the 130mph range, but I'm also wondering how soon the redline cuts it off, because my 300E tends to be running pretty high rpms on the freeway (near 4000 at around 75-80 mph). So anyways, comments/experiences are appreciated. Oh and one more thing... (stupid question) do these models have a top speed limiter?

Fast NSX

I wasn't aware there WERE any Porsche 930 vehicles in the USA...

???

They've been imported on and off since 1979. Go down to your local P car dealer and they probably have the current evolution of it sitting on their lot (993 twin turbo). I had an early car with a Ruf motor in it. Great motor. Scary chassis. Plus, the turbo was either on or off; almost no in-between. Not good when you're zipping up a sweeping curve on the on ramp and your hp doubles without warning. : 0

If you drive one hard, you get used to the ass end of the car being in the next lane beside you. Bring on the oversteer! I ain't skeert! ; )
