Engine/Tranny conversion Problems

I finally got around to bolting my 300E engine up to my 190E 2.6 manual transmission. This part went smoothly, but I am having a problem with the transmission cross-member. I know that the original 2.3 8V cross-member would not work so I got a 2.6 manual cross-member. That part number on this cross-member is 201 242 16 01.

The transmission just doesn't fit on the crossmember. The mount sits on the back of the cross-member right behind the bolt holes. I would need to move it an inch or two towards the front of the car in order for it to work. I don't think there is that much adjustment in the engine mount position to compensate for the amount that the transmission mount it off.

Whats my problem? Do I have the wrong cross-member? Im going to run the part number by Phil in the morning and make sure its right.

Am I going to have to make a crossmember?

No one has even taken a crack at your post Maddog: Heres what I think:
Due to the "mammoth" size of that 3.0 you dropped in the 190, I suspect that the added size of the motor has created a clearence problem in your car. Try to see if a 300e crossmember might work on the 190, otherwise its time for custom fabrication(=$$$).

After talking with Phil at Partshop, it appears that I may have ended up with the wrong crossmember. He said I needed a 102 42 17 01. I guess that solves my problem. Thanks for your help though. I will be back if this one doesn't work.

Alright well it wasn't as simple as I thought. I have the right mount. According to Phil I only have two choices...so what am I doing wrong?

Does my combination not work? Or is there some kind of alignment of the engine that I am not doing?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

Just so you know Mike. The 190E 2.6 motor is the same size as the 300E 3.0 (external dimensions)
