from memory:

> the 500e500 is most rare (# units imported in the N. America)

....also, the 300ce (hardtop coupe) is more rare than the 300ce cabriolet

regarding pricing, I believe the the 300ce cabrio was just slightly more vs. 500e by a few thousand $USD

hope this helps

At least according to price, the convertible seems to be more desirable here in N. CA. I see them in the paper with about 80,000 miles for $27 - 28,000, compared to $16 - 25,000 for our 500E500s.

Like they say at the Barrett-Jackson auctions "when the top goes down, the price goes up"

Yeah I think I'd have to agree with that Barret Jackson Slogan. Seems many convertibles demand a premium over their hard top version. I also think that both men and women love the W124 Convertibles, which increases demand and increases price.

This is probably left field material but I wonder if most people buy convertibles as a weekend toy and are willing to spend a little more to get something nicer? Where as the 500E/E500 can easily be considered a dual purpose car? Another point is the 500's require a trained eye for someone to recognize it's special features while the drop top is pretty obvious. I guess I'm trying to grasp at the psychological reasons why more demand exists for the drop top rather than the 500's.

Hmmm... so could perfection be a M119 W124 convertible?

Or an M119 R129?

The Illustrated Buyer's Guide to Mercedes Benz awards 4 stars (out of 5) to both the 500E / E500 and the 300E covertible / E320 convertible for collectibility.

However, while 500E / E500's were produced in slightly less numbers, on the current used car market, the convertibles are doing a better job of holding their value.

It is rare to see them advertised below the mid-twenties, and the 500E / E500's have already dropped to the high teens.
