93 600SL soft top problem
my 600sl soft top, and roll bar stopped working a couple of days ago. i have researched this forum, and obtained alot of information. i understand that there are probably some codes in the soft top controller. my problem is the procedure for retrieving the codes is for a square connector under the hood on the passenger side. i have a round connector, that appears to have 38 pins on it. is there a procedure for this type of connector, or do you need a scanner? any info or suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. thanks

The procedure for the 16-pin connector should work for the 38-pin connector as well. Pin #21 is the diagnostic output for the soft top controller, #3 is battery voltage, and #1 is ground. I'm not sure that the lamp in the top switch is wired to the diagnostic pin as with the earlier models, so you may have to use an LED or meter to see the pulses.

Can you start the diagnostic mode from within the car, ie to see if the top controler switch/lamp flashes? Or do you still have to short pin21 of the diag connector to 0V? Just wondered. Lea

Still have to short #21 at the connector, Lea. Same for all of the diagnostics.
