Really strange find on 560SL
I was checking my radio antenae on an unrelated problem and found a strange plastic "container" just forward of the antenea behind the panel. It appears to be ~4" on the side with a 3 pin connector on the top and a 6" cable that goes to another connector. This cable is unplugged from what appears to be the mating piece.
It appears that no one has ever been in here before or they were awfully good as nothing appears disturbed except this strange box with the unhooked plug. Who knows what this is?

Could it be a vibration sensor for a car alarm? Just a guess but I've noticed the location you're referring to seems to be a favorite location for a "tilt" or vibration sensor, and the three leads would support that. But then again I may be all wrong, what color are the wires?

Could it be an older analog cell phone antenna connector? That was the case with my car.

The location you refer to is where my wiring diagram says the Anti theft towing sensor should be. This sensor was only put on in 1986. My 1988 560SL does not have one. I assumed that they did away with it because of too many nusance alarms. Which is probably why yours is disconnected.

Here is a pic of the odd box. It almost looks lit a small tank with a level sensor. I don't recall my owners manual saying anthing about an anti-tow alarm. How was it supposed to work?
