Can anyone answer this for me, please?

I tried this question at the tire forum but no one answered so I hope one of you SL owners will help me out.

I am looking to buy two sets of AMG Monoblock came off a 2001 CLK55. The wheels are in staggered configurations. 17x7.5 front and 17x8.8 rear with 35mm off set and 5-112 bolt pattern. Called Tirerack and they told me they will not recommend them for my car. Called two dealers with two answers. One dealer said they won't work, while the other said they will but not the best wheels for my car. They said I should use 18x8 front and 18x9 rear.

So, please if someone who had upgraded their wheels let me know if they will work before I pay for the wheels and have them shipped to me. Any input will be greatly appreciated. My car is a 95 SL.

I have been thinking to upgrade my wheels for a long time and this guy is selling them for a reasonable price. 2 sets for $500 with slight curb rash on one wheel.

When in doubt, don't! I would only use the wheels that are specific to my car. The SL is very fast and very nimble, if the offsett is incorrect it will cause your car to handle inproperly. Wait for the right good deal. I want new AMG wheels for my car too, but for some reason whenever you see them for the SL they seem to be so much more expensive! Good luck!

I have a set of AMGs from a CLK elau, and they perform fine. Referring to Tirerack.com, I have the model 170 pictured on the left.

If the wheels you are considering are this style and you don't want them, please email me, because I would buy them for myself.

Actually it is the AMG Aero II Monoblock. Luke at Tirerack emailed me and said the front is too small for load balancing for my SL, he said it may work but not recommended. Anybody has a 17x7.5 on the front? And what may be the probelm with a 7.5 in the front?

I am running 7.5" up front and 8.5" rear on one of my SLs. I also have an SL with 8" front and rear and another SL with 8.5" front and rear, and the car with 7.5" handles comparably.
