Strong Gasoline Odor!
Filled the car up with gas last night. Today on the way to work i had a terrible gasoline odor in the cabin. Checked under the hood no odor. The trunk has the gas smell rather strong. Checked the ground under the car in the parking garage, no seepage.
Can't seem to pinpoint it. anyone else experience this? |
Mine will do that if I fill it too far....something to do with the vent/location. It always go away after I drive it a bit,

I had the same issue on my 380SL the drain tube in behind the filler cap door was plugged leting the gas drain into the trunk. Blew it out with compressed air and no more gas smell
|
...or you can replace the gas cap. That's what I did and it solved the problem.
|
I had a bad gas cap too. They caught it at the emissions inspection. It wouldn't hold a vacuum / seal. Anyhow, after replacing the cap, the occasion gas odors I would sometimes experience after filing the tank stopped occuring.

Guys, you are right. I read it somewhere in the owner's manual that you are supposed to replace the gas cap and oil filler cap every so many years.
