Blower stops blowing during acceleration

What would cause my A/C blower to stop blowing during acceleration in my 1986 560SL? Vacuum leak? It works fine, blows cold and strong at idle and while coasting. If I want to cool the car at hwy speed, I need to release the accelerator and coast for a few seconds to make the blower blow.

Does the blower stop or does it become restricted? If you have a flap closing it off due to vacuum loss then that would cause a restriction of air flow, but your blower motor will still be going. Check out the diagnostic info I posted on the MBCA website for your wonderful 107 chassis car! Happy Benzing,
Brian

My 1980 450SL exhibited the same symptom a number of years ago. On mine it was caused by a vacuum leak in the HVAC system. An actuator that controlled an air flap had begun leaking. Blower would stop when I'd accelerate but restart when driving normally.

I found it by isolating each actuator and pulling a vacuum on each separately. This can be done by attaching hoses and providing the vacuum yourself. But mine is a 1980....

The air goes warm, then the blower stops. About 5 seconds after releasing the accelerator, it blows cool again.

It takes a few seconds to rebuild the vacuum. That's the way mine works but your is an '86.

Blower and vacuum courtesy of the Chrysler Corp.

Your blower motor is controlled by a master switch that is vacuum actuated.
The blower will not come on in any setting besides defrost unless you have at least 15 to 20 hg of vacuum.

Look for a leaking vacuum acuator, or bad fitting or valve somewhere in the system. The ACC2 system is a carbon copy of the climate control system used on 1970's Chrysler Imperials and was never really engineered for the 107.

If you don't believe me, check out the Chrylser Imperial club website http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/Master/281/index.htm.

Now you know why the system is such a piece of sh%%#%#@%
