Purpose of this cannister
I am just curious. My car is a 1984 380SL. There is a long metal cannister next to the radiator on the drivers side. It has two rubber or plastic tubes coming out of the top. Can anyone tell me what this thingy does?

Tom,
I asked the same question about my '83 380SL and was told it was a charcoal canister for the fuel tank evaporator system. I had to pull mine out to change the radiator and shook it and I could hear something sounding like sand moving around inside. I assume this is the charcoal. Though I have no idea what shape this thing is in, after 22 years. Actually my SL was built in Aug of '82. So technically the car is soon to be 23 years old.
