Question Purpose of notches in chrome strips in centre of 107 hardtop?

Hey Guys,

Would anyone know the purpose of the notches in chrome strips in centre of 107 hardtop. Could they be used for some type of roof rack?

I was thinking about using them in conjunction with the gutters to for a mounting point to lift the roof of the car. What are your thoughts?

Would they be bolted to the roof, or just clip in?

Do you think the combination of the top strip and the gutter would be strong enough?

Ther are 4 of them evenly spaced I think it should share the load fairly evenly.

The pic I have is 87k and it wont let me post it sorry. The notches are on the inside edges of the two centre strips down the middle of the hard top.

Your thoughts would be apreciated

Regards

Damian

I think that there were ski racks available, and this is where they would fit.

On using them to lift the top - I DO NOT think that this would be a good idea.

."........Roof Racks: for various Mercedes-Benz models (C107-W220) to carry bicycles, skis, luggage boxes, etc. Custom-made by Oris of Germany (OEM supplier); new or trade-ins, from Canada. Mercedes does not suggest lifting the roof with these ......Hope this helps...

Thanks guys,

After a long search I found a pic of the ski racks you mentioned.

Thanks for your replys.

You wouldn't know how the strips are fastend to the roof would you?
Even the racks with luggage on them ( I asume they are not just for ski's ) etc, must put a bit of force on to the strips during cornering?

Regards Damian
