Plastic washer on windshield hold for softtop pins
Hi,
Can someone give me the part number for the plastic washers that go in the holes on the windshield top moulding piece for the soft/hard top pins? This is a 560sl. I couldn't find it in the search. Thanks. David |
I don't have a part number, but they are available at a lot of mail-order places inexpensively (there is a guy selling them on eBay at absolute rip-off prices). Get several sets - mine turn yellow in one year in KY. Who knows what they do further south.

The part number is 107 688 00 97. Group 68 - Covering and Lining. For some reason, it's on the Instrument Panel breakout.
My car didn't have any when I bought it. Put a new set in a couple of years ago and they've already yellowed some. I bought enough for another couple of changes. |
These are one of those parts that is cheap at the dealer.

Thanks everyone! You guys are the best!

Here it is.
If you don't have these - I'd advise getting some. At the very least, they are helpful in "aiming" when installing the top. I had to replace the brushed stainless top of the cowl on my car (which didn't have these originally, replacement was difficult and expensive) because the old one looked like someone had been using it for target practice. |
I bought some of those a couple of years ago. Never could get em to fit (they seemed too large for the hole).
Is there a trick to installing these grommets? Thanks. |
They are a little difficult to install, put them in hot water, as hot as you can stand first, this will help A LOT. Maybe boiling, fish them out with a fork, and when they cool enough to touch work with them. Getting in one lip and working around did the trick for me. CAUTION: Don't even THINK of pounding them in with ANY tool of any kind whatsoever.
If you think this is difficult, try putting in new isolation grommets on the accellerator actuator mount. It took boiling water, a lot of swearing, and a small amount of blood. |

I didn't have to boil mine. Installed one half and push the other half in. My problem was that since I didn't have them in before, my metal was bent down, not leaving enough room to insert. I had to carefully bend the metal back.
