SL 320 Front crankshaft oil seal replacement
Greetings to all
Just picked up a 97 sl320 with 72Kmiles very clean but the front crank seal appears to be leaking. The Head gasket was just replaced so that leak is iliminated. Has anyone ever replaced one of these? If so, I would appreciate some directions. I can't seem to find any info on the forum about this particular problem on this car. Thanks Acerejo |

I think it's not a common DIY job because of the torque required, 200 ft lbs or something like that, I forget what the number is but it's a lot. It's nice to have the car up on a lift so you get at it with the right equipment.

Sl320 crankshaft seal
Thanks Deanyiel, The high torque doesn't scare me, it acually looks easy what I don't know is if I need a puller or the pulley just comes out after removing the big nut.
I need to pick up a real repair manual and not use the micky mouse one from Mitchell. Any way if someone out there has done it I still would appreciate some input. Thanks again, Acerejo |

Acerejo,
Try using the alldatadiy.com link I find it is pretty good for most types of repairs, I usually can geta mech. repair quote down to +-$10-20. BTW the cost of a all data subscription is only USD$15 and it is mostly what the pros use. Regards,Keith |

Sl 320 crank seal replacement
Keith,
Thanks for the tip, is there a lot of info on mercedes vehicles? also according to the web site it is 25.00 per year and 15.00 for additional vehicles, still a bargain if the info is available. Thanks, Acerejo |
