'85 380SL Re-Power ?
O.K. ,following the lead of comments here I've been looking at dead 380's as the junkyards are full of nice ones with broken timing chains and ruined engines .
Question : can I stick a good used 116 engine into one of these and put it back on the road ? I have acess to cheap 116 engines..... TIA , |
Is this a trick question. A 116 is what is already in a 380SL

maybe he means ANY 116 engine.

I read on another thread that the oil filter mount is different and must be swapped, otherwise it should fit. Let us know what you end up doing!

Hm , the 116 engine in MY car has Duplex timing chains...
As I've said before (tho' I seem to have forgotten to mention it this time) I'm a Mercedes Dieselhead , this W-107 bit is new to me , I really like this car a _lot_ , still trying to figger out what to do , I have this Euro spec. 350SLC 4 speed manual and I'd rather have a 6 cylinder one with automatic (I know , I know , I'm strange that way) The good 380's I'm finding look like good projects to me , scrap yards here in So. Cal. are simply LOADED with smashed , low milage Merc's with 116 engines in them.... Plus lots of deal 380SL/SLC's with bad timing chains..... |
