1970 280 SL Roadster Transmision problems help

!970 280 Roadster Automatic transmission. Recently transmission was leaking so I removed it from the car . And I install a new gasket seal that goes between the tranny and torque converter. So I install the transmission back on. So now I have no 4th gear its like I have two neutrals. and when i drive it it harsh stumbles when i drive it. anyone have idea what went wrong? I was thinking maybe needs to be adjusted. Also Im not sure if I have the wires on the side of the tranny in the right palace.

It sounds like your shifter linkage is out of adjustment.

But I'm curious: the 1970 280SL had a 4-speed auto? And it had electronic controls of some sort? Seems a little ahead of its time. Perhaps another forum member can shed some light on this. All I know is that my '79 450SL has a 3-speed non-electronic auto...

These two websites are dedicated to the W113 chassis (230SL, 250SL, 280SL): http://www.sl113.org/home.asp and http://pagoda113.com. You might post your problem there.

Page, the electrical connections to the tranny are for the kickdown solenoid and a 3-position solenoid that moves when at idle and full throttle.
