My factory alarm went crazy

Well this morning i went to get into my 560 SL and I opened the door, and when I started the car the alarm started going off. Sometines I have problems with the alarm when I open the door, but usually I can turn it off with the the key in one door or the other. This time the door opened without any noise. I could not turn off the alarm with the key and had to unplug the controller behind the glove box. Anyone have any ideas? And will reconnecting the controller reset the system?
