I am considering changing spark plugs to NGK BP5 or 6ES . Are they copper core and are they any good?

Copper core is best. Stock ignition system does not have enough ooomph to light off a platinum plug. As far as 5 or 6 what kind of temperature and style of driving will you be doing?

Basically city driving and an occasional trip to Atlantic City at 75 mph. Ambient temps from 50 F-95 F as I only drive the car during thespring thru fall months.
