Hi all, I ordered a pair of replacement leather seat covers for my SL from JJ products. They did not come with any instructions, I would appreciate if anyone could guide me through the process of removing the old and replacing with the new.

i cannot find any guides online, i don't really know where to start. the local Mercedes specialist has ripped me off on some work already and he is asking $800 to put them in, which i'm sure is not such a big job and i can do myself.

please help, thanks

I don't like JJ products. The covers are way to tight!!!!

I'm not sure how similar you car's seats are to the ones in my 87 560SL but I replaced mine last fall it was a JOB! I had the same problem as mentioned - the covers were very tight (I actually tore one of them in the process). A hint from a heighbor helped a great deal; cover the seats in plastic bags (the ones from the dry cleners worked best) and use a little talcom powder to help the covers slide on. After that pull and push the covers into position very gently and slowly. It took two of us a full afternoon to do one seat. Good luck.

If you think too tight is bad, too loose is worse. It's a tricky business sizing these because if they are sized exactly as they were when new, they will be too big because the foam/rubber shrinks.

This job is a $%@ #$@#, and my hands looked like I was in a bar fight, even a week later.

The four screws per seat holding the sides to the seat back are DOUBLE @#$@ #$#. So far, on four seats:

3 stripped, then drilled
1 broken welded nut, cut off.

Because these are high-strength screws, I bought OEM replacements.

I eventually learned that the following tool setup WILL WORK if you put some oomph into it: A breaker bar, an extension, and a #4 philips socket, with the seat on its side and pushing down from the top with your body. Anything else, good luck.

It IS worth it, though!!!

Don't forget to work over the rails, I cleaned, greased, painted mine and they work like they probably did when they were new.

Silicone spray on the foam helps also in sliding the covers on.

I use a tourch to remove backrest screws. Heat the nut to loosen locktight. Also, becareful when sliding out seat tracks, there are 4 plastic guides on each side and must be put back in the same place or seat will wobble.

sorry, I failed to mention i have a w129.

I am thinking it's more trouble then it's worth, i drove down to a specialist yesterday in North Bergan, NJ, who said he will do it for $200 per seat... sound reasonable?

That's a super deal.
Ask for some kind of warranty/guarantee, in writing...

Did you tell him the covers are from JJ?????? 129 seats are much easier to do. I charge 175.00 per section!!!!!!
