560SL power window repair report

Failure: Left side (driver's) power window would go up but not down after installation of new shift knob. Right side window o.k. Assumed something shorted during knob installation.

Reference: ALLDATADIY

Fault isolation: Window motor probably o.k. since window went up. Fuse 4 designated for left window control tested o.k. Removed console trim and switches. No 12vdc present on left switch connector at red wire as shown on ALLDATADIY diagram. Swapped left switch for right switch and verified switch o.k. Check wiring with ohmeter. Wiring o.k.

Repair: Further exam showed blown Fuse 3 (designated for RIGHT window control). Replaced Fuse 3 and all windows o.k.

Conclusion: The fuse designation placard in the fuse panel door is wrong and ALLDATADIY information is also wrong OR the German convention is opposite that of the U.S.A. convention (Left = Driver's side in the U.S.A.)
