1991 300 sl re-starting problems....PLEASE HELP
My sl will fire up instantly with NO problems.....run smoothly for about 15 minutes, cut or rather choke off and not re-start unless it sits for about 30 to 40 minutes, if you try to instantly re-crank it it sounds as if the timing has jumped or as if its not getting any fuel and kinda bucks and spits and absolutely will not crank. but after that 30-40 min period it fires right back up as if nothing ever happened.PLEASE advise me as to what I have done

Check wires, rotor and cap.

These symptoms sound fuel delivery related to me...as in fuel pump, fuel filter (I change mine 1/yr) and/or fuel accumulator. Bob |
This may not be an easy problem to figure out at home. You need to determine if it's a fuel delievery problem or an ignition problem. This vehicle has 2 fuel pumps. Either one overheating and locking up will stop fuel flow and mimic vapor lock. Seems a long time to run for a clogged fuel filter. Crankshaft position sensor is an outside chance. It's on the front of the engine below and to the left of the idler tension pulley. Ignition control module? Maybe post your question in the tech help forum section.

same problem for my 300sl
I am experiencing the same issue as originally posted by glennstoy. If anyone knows what he did to fix the problem, it sounds like you guys could save me a lot of time and money. Thanks in advance
