Glove box insert
I need to find a glove box insert for a 1980 450 SL. The original owner of the car cut a hole in the back of the glove box insert to install a graphic equalizer. When I purchased the car I wanted to restore it to original condition but every insert that I have purchased (including the one from Mercedeshop.com) has a factory cutout in the back. Upon inquiring what the cutout was for I was told that it was for a flashlight but that the flashlight is no longer available. Other 450 SL owners that I have talked with do not have a flashlight in the back of the glove box.
I would like to either: 1) Find an insert without a hole 2) Find out what went into the hole so that I could at least cover it up. Right now I have the hole covered with duct tape, decidely un Mercedes like. Can anyone help shed some light on this? Thanks!

iozero,
I replaced the glovebox about a year ago, here is a picture of the insert, but no hole in it.

Dom,
When I replaced the glove box they came as a package. Have you asked your local dealer for one?

I've got a glove box insert for my '85 500SL on order from Pete @ mbparts@tristarpete.com for $20.00. E-mail him or check his website http://tristarpete.com/ .

You were told right -- early 107 cars came with a pathetic plastic flashlight in the glovebox -- trust me -- none of them lasted very long. If you want to remain stock, Tri-Star Pete (or other yards that specialize in old MBs) isn't a bad option -- you might find an old flashlight. It won't work, but it will fill the hole and it is stock.

done deal
ordered one from caliber motors' Tom Hanson for $29, fit right in. This model did not come with the removable flashlight, but a built in light. (whether this is stock or something the former PO did I don't know)
regardless, new insert is in and working fine.
