Superchips Doesn't Remove Speed Limiter
Well, we found out on the Nevada desert roads that the Superchip EPROM hasn't removed the top-speed limiter on our E500. Did four runs on a seven-mile stretch of straight road and consistently ran up to a GPS-measured 157 mph before hitting a limiter at 6000 rpm. With more revs and no limiter, I feel the car would run out of horsepower at about 165 mph.
Sadly, after the top speed tests the car mysteriously went into limp-home mode and spent a week (Sat. to Sat.) at the Las Vegas dealer, Fletcher Jones, before they diagnosed a failed alternator. I don't know about anyone else, but a week in Las Vegas is four days too long for me! Many thanks to the other participants in the Silver State Classic who offered us another vehicle and trailered our car back to town. Also, kudos to M-B's roadside assistance program for providing the four hour tow to Las Vegas. :) I hope they also cover the car rental, but that's another story ;) |
My understanding is that the EPROM can't remove the speed limiter as a different computer than the one it's installed in controls that function...or something like that...
