300sl r129 1989 - loud noise after hitting the brakes

When I hit the brakes on my 300 SL R129 , 1989, and just before the car really stops I hear a loud noise, kind of like "BANG".
It sounds like there is play somewhere. It is a loud tic/bang. I think I hear it at the right front, but it could also be coming from the right end. Hard to say actually. The rubbers of the stabilizer bars are recently renewed but I still hear that noise.

Is there someone with an option where to look for ?

I think I have located the problem. The lower ball joint on the right has play.
Will have to replace it.
Can this be done without special tools? And must the ball joint be pushed in from the bottom?
