should I?

Hi guys. I'm a regular on the Diesel Discussion and Parts forum. I've got a lead on a 1976 Mercedes 450SL parts car. Anyone want to give me any ideas on any particular parts they would need off this baby? I'd snatch it up if I could part it and dispose of it quickly. I guess I would strip it and store what I could.

I would want to sell what I could right off the bat, so my storage doesn't get filled with car parts.

What do the fenders look like?

Basically at this point, anything you can physically unscrew/unbolt and is in good or restorable condition has some value.

pm pwogaman he might need some parts.

I need the little chrome escutcheon where the roof top rear pin goes through.

I also need a rear plate that covers the rear part of the transmission pan. The transmission mount also bolts to this.

Don't know yet; haven't seen the car, but pics look decent enough.

Well, if the sun visors are near prefect with good clips, there's $100-$200.00 right there. Nice soft top is another few hundred. Good interior bits about the same as you get for other chassis.

I don't know anything else of real value out of a 450... Alot more money would be made on more modern ones.

I know a guy in MBCA who may need some R107 parts after an accident. I told him to contact me if he needs anything in case you get the car.

D-jet parts

If 76 is still D-Jet,then any of the D-Jet specific parts(MAP sensor,distributor,
fuel pump, computer)would be worth money.I think the MAP sensors are over 1000$ if/when you can still get them.Fuel pumps are 500-800$
I'm trying to locate the rear "deck" carpeting in palamino brown color and the drivers side door panel as well

76 is K. 75 was the last year of the D. I already stripped a 76 to the bone, stored what I could use, and then cut up the frame and hauled it off to the dump.

Thanks for the thought about needing some parts, but I think I'd better lay low until my wife gets over the 300TE 4matic surprise I came home with last week.

Ron, if you can be more specific about the xmsn part you need I let you know if I have it. I just might.

I was thinking of buying the whole car and then parting it out. I'm trying to gauge if there are enough people that need parts. It would be terrible to let this thing go to the crusher if it has reusable parts on it.

had a look....

Well, folks, I went and had a look today at this:
http://photobucket.com/partscar --- it is the BLUE one.

The owner called me when I was about 15 minutes away to tell me that he had accepted a $100 deposit on it this morning. He's only asking $500. He bought it about 5 years ago in California and he does not have a title on it.

It has a hole in the hood next to the MB emblem and a bad rust\peeling paint & metal issue between the hood and the windshield about a 4" square section; rust at bottom back corner of the doors....but not too bad. Hard top looks to be in very good shape. Has over 200K miles on it.

I did find a brand new 1997 Florida license tag in the trunk.

So, maybe, it is a blessing in disguise....that someone beat me to it.
