'95 SL500 rolls backward after shifting to "park"

Hi all -

Whenever the vehicle is put into park after driving, the car rolls backward about 3-4 inches. Is this a sign of the transmission needing adjustment, or a differential problem? A while back, I had the shifter bearings replaced because of a sloppy shifter, thinking that would allow the gears to align and fix the problem. The shifter is now tight, but I still get the annoying rollback! Has anyone had this problem, and if so, what was the problem and how was it fixed? Thanks for you input!

I own a 1987 560SL as well as a 93 300E and they both roll back when shifted to park. I believe your 95 has the same version transmission. I think that this is a quark of this era of automobile.

It's normal if you are on a slight incline. My 95 does the same thing. If it bothers you, engage the emergency brake. Have fun.
