I have a friend here in FL who is a very talented cabinet maker and I am thinking of having him make a few things for my SL

1. Walnut visors correct shape and size just made of walnut to match the original wood. (of course I'll be keeping the originals in the event I ever sell the car)

2. Door pockets in matching walnut. I'll keep the originals but the driver door pocket is busted.

3. I have even considered having the vertical sides of the console or even an entirely new console constructed of the same wood but I think that might just be overkill.

I just think this thing needs more wood in the interior.


So is this something that others have done, thought about, wished for?

I would not do it -- wood splinters in a car accident and the sharp edges can cause serious damage to the occupants -- you are better off with soft materials in your vehicle.

I would agree with Dan, plus those side pockets take too much room, when I redid my interior I left them off, never missed em

Seriously though, thanks for the input.

I was actually considering making the new ones a little narrower, just about wide enough to hold a few maps. Narrowing them from the 12cm outside, to just over 4cm outside width.

I have feelers out for a w124ER ambulance/hearse chassis, if I can't find one of those I'll have to settle for a standard W124TE or possibly a 300TE.

I would prefer one with a running gasoline engine and a standard trans.

If you hear of one cheap let me know! And thanks for asking.
