Replacing the starter/alternator wiring harness on '95 SL500?
 

I need some help with this. My wiring in the '95 is brittle toast. I have already replaced the engine/injector harness and I have obtained the starter/alternator/ oil sender harness and I am not sure how to proceed. Where does this originate on the passengerside? Where to start is my specific question? I don't have access to a picture or illustration of the passengerside computer compartment. Can anyone "walk" me through to find the starting point? From there its seems fairly easy, but I need a reference to start at. Thanks, Steve

Well, since I received no replies from anyone on the forum, I jumped into this today. Weather was nice, balmy 35F and some sun in Cleve Ohio Brrrrrr.... I traced the wires back, the harness originates inside of the various computers housing on the passengerside engine compartment. Looks fairly straightforward but I wasn't sure how to separate the initial connection. Looks like the parts connect through some type of indentation. I don't want to break the connector apart so I am going to do this next week when I can use a warm garage and a car lift to work underneath replacing the wire and connectors. I will report on the final results in case anyone is interested. The next project will be to have the throttlebody rebuilt and replace that wiring as well.

Wait! I'm interested, even though my car is much older. Let us know how it goes. I think most of the others have older cars too, mostly 107's, hence the lack of acknowledging posts. Ned

I wanted to change this wiring harness today but the temp is 16F and colddddd. I'll take some pictures, but this is really easy. This harness connects at the top of the computer housing on the passengerside and the rest of the connections are very easy to follow. Replacing the main engine harness was actually a snap too, about 2 hrs or less and it was made easy by some pictures that were sent to me showing how to access the firewall pass through for the main connection and some tips on removing the wire connections from the injectors. I wish that there was a better service manual available for this vehicle, with better pictures and illustrations. My MGB, MG-TD and TR-6 and MIATA manuals were great compared to what I've had to work with.
