Trunk issues.
Good morning all. Can anyone instruct me as to how to make my trunk stay open? Whenever I open it, it wants to close under its own weight.
Not sure if it's related but here is the history: When I first got the car a few months ago, the hinges made a very load groan when I would open the trunk. It opened easily but made a heck of a racket. I sprayed blindly into the void of the trunk support with some WD40 and got the noise to go away. It wouldn't stay open before or after the WD40. As long as we are in the trunk, where is the trunk light supposed to be? I don't seem to have one. Not sure if the lid was replaced by a PO, thus these issues. as always, your help is appreciated. Thanks, Matt

Matt,
The trunk light should be inside a cut-out in the lid's lip just to the right of the MB logo. |

there is a spring like mechanism to assist the hinges in keeping the trunk open. It is a PIA to get to let alone service. It may be broken or "sprung".
I believe I have the procedure to access if you want it PM me
