Patch or replace plastic window on soft top

If the small window on the soft top is cracked, is it possible to easily and or inexpensively have it replaced or patched?

thanks

Morning Zeus

I've a similar problem with mine ( a very small 1.5 inch crack at the top of the LH window) and I've been going to do something about it for ages !!!!

We ( in the UK) have several companies who will re-sew new plastic windows in soft tops ( about £270 Stirling for all three I seem to remember) which included removal and re-fitting - I've no doubt that someone in the US will come along here soon with a more local operative, BUT in the mean time I've glued a small piece of soft clear plastic (using Gorilla glue) over the crack.

As I rarely have the top up anyway and my repair is watertight and reasonably flexible I'm not really in a hurry to spend the cash on replacement windows.

I guess it all depends on how big the crack is and how much you're concerned about how it looks

Jim

HAving said all that a replacement hood :

If replacing the windows is your goal

it is hardly worth it. It cannot be done with the top in place. The labor and materials to r&r the top and sew in new plastic windows comes dangerously close to simply buying a new top.

BTW I got my top from Prestige and do not recall them offering glass windows. It would be difficult to impossible to stow the top with glass windows.

When you get a new top or windows if you choose, I find it useful to carry a baby blanket under the top for stuffing between folds when stowing. This will eliminate the folds rubbing together and will prolong the life of the top and windows.

In a 107 convertible top? I would love to see how that folds up into the boot.

I know it's not considered good manners to post links to other suppliers in this forum, but I don't feel this link competes with the guys at PParts. It is for a soft top plastic window replacement kit. This company claims you can replace the windows yourself in under 4 hours without removing the top. Well, I'm from Misourri on this one. But if it works as claimed I'd be very impressed. The price is low too. I have repaired my window cracks with heavy clear vinyl tape. yhttp://www.r129motoring.com/R129M_Store.php?view=productPage&product=3&category=3

top window replacement

I replaced all three of my windows last summer. Used solvent to release the glue, removed the top which was in good condition and had a boat canvass company I deal with sew in upgraded vinyl windows. DIY: 4 hours and $150 bucks. I have a '95 SL500 and it has a two piece top and I removed the back section to do this. Not that hard. I forgot to mention to buy the MBZ glue (about $30?) to reattach to frames.
