Help - where does this part go?

I must begin by confessing that I am an idiot. While taking parts off the car to get at my passenger side exhaust manifold for removal to fix a broken stud, I did not take any pictures thinking - I'm only removing 4 parts, surely I can remember where they came from. If you have had your 60th plus birthday, you can probably relate. So, after getting everything fixed and put back together I have one part left over. I have spent a couple of hours trying to figure out where it came from, but to no avail - I'm stumped. So, I am asking for help. It is a piece of sheet metal approx. 11 inches long. It appears that is might be a shield for exhaust heat and I'm guessing it goes on the underside of the car - but not sure. It is held in place by one small sheet metal bolt at one end, and a "clip" at the other. I am enclosing two pictures as attachments for reference. One is with the part by itself laying on the garage floor, and the other is with the part laying on top of the engine to give some sense of relative size.

I have a 77 Euro 350SL, so it may be unique to the beast. Any help would be greatly appreciated - I'm baffled.
