Oops, I dit it again...

Well another R107 has ended up in my driveway.
We were over at a friend's house (lucky guy has 4 107s and two 114s) when my stepson fell in love with this brown '79 280SL. She is rusty but that M110 engine ran so sweetly and she drove so well that after getting many assurances that he would work on it with me I bought the darn thing. I went to pick it up and while we were waiting for the flatbed truck (thank you, AAA) we decided to weld up the worst of the holes.

I got her home and named her BrownHilda.

Here are some shots of her along with Monika, the '74 450SL with her little sister...

Sweet M110

Not too bad, eh?

I've got a Jeep KL just like yours; well same color at least. So far very satisfied with it. Getting fantastic mpg's as compared to the SL. and it's ever so fast and quiet.

Why does this car always look purple in the pics. I have only seen one or two posted by the previous owner that looked remotely brown even before the Zender parts were removed. Don't think it is my monitor settings as have have viewed it on multiple computers.

It is one of those colors that changes in the light. In the garage it seems very brown, but outside it seems very purple.

I think it looks good with the gold hard top.

More pix

here are some more pictures. Since this car is designated as my stepson's, I am having him do the work on it.

Here are some pictures of us changing the valve cover gasket and spark plugs.

How does the M110 Look?

The camshafts looked great, no wear on the lobes at all as far as I could tell

Chain looked good too, the guide was intact and the rubber coating not worn.

Here is the boy and the plugs... I cannot believe how much gunk was in the plug wells, with the valve cover off we scraped them out and vacuumed up the oily crud before removing the old plugs.

This work and the can of Seafoam I ran through the metering plate have the engine running really well...

Next is a fluid change.

Nice car!
Thanks, it is pretty much a rust bucket as described in this thread here, but it is a learning experience for my stepson and a bonding experience for both of us.

It is a huge change from the Diesel 126s I usually play with

I will PM Stretch, but I am not here that much these days...
