560 SL Cracked Air Bag Cover

I have cracks in the airbag tear away seems in my steering wheel airbag cover of my '87 560SL. I've noticed this on a number of 560 SL's. Has anyone out there found a suitable replacement cover, without having to replace the entire steering wheel and airbag module? There are PVC/Vinyl repair kits on the market; any sucess with these kits? Seems kind of messy.
