Did it ever exist

I have just completely finished a total rust purge and body restoration on my 560 SL.

The worst damage was on the rocker panels especially around the side pipes that engage the tire jack. These had to be completely replaced and rewelded to the frame.

I have never had any covers for these holes on the side of the car but U do know that many Mercededs Models have them.

Did the 560 come with rubber plugs or covers of some type? What are they called and WHO would sell them?

I'm beginning to believe that this small item is a figment of my imagination?

I have never seen them and the EPC does not show them. I guess you could call the Classic Center.

Have a look at later MB like a 95 - 00 C280 / E320 , they black plastic covers that might fit other cars.

If nothing turns up, I'd say to use plastic rod cut to a taper. Drill tap the center and carry an eye bolt for removal.

There are things known in the trade by the brand name " Cap Plugs " . They are usually red though come in other colors and lots of styles. Another possibility are the plastic caps found on new hydraulic fittings.
