I have allways been in love with the Sl from 90-up... today my dreams came a little closer.. I was searching on recycler.. and a 1990 300SL came up.. http://www.recycler.com/asp/AdDetails.asp?sKW=300SL&bIP=0&cmdBtn=Find+It%21&bAnd=1&sAC=%27All%27&iAA=&optWtd=&optSrc=&curNP=&curXP=&iNYr=&iXYr=&bIP=0&iSC=5000&iID=7810&sBAC=310&bSQ=0
Just the way I like them.. badged with v12's and 600's
but my real question is.. how bad is the mantainace on these bad boys... will i be payin an arm and a leg? or two.. i need a daily driver.. however ill keep my SD for long trips..
Also would realy consider a set of rear jump seats.. the price is a little price.. i checked around and there up to a grand for the 90's bu tthe 80's are somwhere aorund 300 or so.. dont know why but until i figure out the mantainace on the 300 i cant do anything.. any advice/expreences with a 300 is greatly apreceated thanks!

I would recommend you for a later year model. However, if you like the car, then go for it. My maintainence for last year was $333.38, and that includes replacing the original battery with a new one for $166.

If the car is well maintained throughout its life (i.e. has full service record to look at), it should be a very reliable car for years to come.

As with buying anything used, take someone with you who is familiar with this type of car and have him look it over. Or take it to a MB mechanic to have the car check out. Good luck!!

I have owned my 1990 300 SL for three years. Years one and two were pretty much maintenance free and I used it as a daily driver and took one trip which was almost 3,000 miles. This year is another story. I spent $400.00 for a relay which it turned out didn't really solve my air conditioning problem. I spent $1500.00 replacing a faulty SRS control unit. I just dropped it off at the shop to find and fix my air conditioning problem and to find and fix a problem with my soft top which just occured. I'm expecting a mega bill. I don't think it matters much whether you're buying a 1990 or a 1995, you can expect that when something goes wrong, the repair cost will be expensive. Having said that, I don't regret buying my car. The R 129 SL's are truly in a class by themselves providing the ultimate in driving pleasure.
