560 SL Hardtop Remval

What brand of explosive is recommended?
I have tried everything I have read in this Forum without success exvept to damage the finish on my 38,000 mile example.
One question: in sliding the center latch toward the passenger side, is this referring to the stainless steel oval surrounding the deck hole where the pin enters, or is this only a protective escutcheon with the latch underneath? If so, how far underneath?

Hard top removal

HI THIS IS CONTROLLED BY THE SAME SET OF RELEASE AND LOCK CLOCK HAND BEHIND THE DRIVERS SEAT ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. THAT YOU USE TO RELEASE THE SOFT TOP SEE THE PIN IS IDENTICAL?

DO NOT FORCE ANYTHING. READ THE IINSTRUCTION BOOK. OR GET SOME ONE TO SEND YOU THE PAGE BY SCAN.

GOOD LUCK

JACK

HI This is all baded on that you hqave realeased the two locks above the windshield and the two side locks on each side just behind the doors. There are five locking points. This is a three person job, two if they are experienced unless you have it on a hoist.

This is why you dont see the hardtop on many cars.

I know how to release the top and have read all pertinent literature. Something is wrong: either the control cable is broken or is not properly adjusted.

I was able to remove the hardtop today and adjust the cable which operates the center-rear safety latch so it will work as intended. I accomplished this by lifting the top as much as possible and reaching under with a small Vice-Grip tool and turning the pin clockwise (latch the tool onto the pin while the handle is toward the passenger side, and pull the handle toward the drivers side).

First time. Once I got the latch tripped, just follow the instructions.
