Removing window switch. 1983 500 SL

I need to replace or clean the r/s window switch in my 1983 500 SL. I have concerns about removing the switch from the wood console with out damaging it. Can someone please outline the steps ? Thanks.

It is best to lift the wood switch panel from the console. Often the panel needs to be pushed towards the rear of the car as there is a plastic retaining pin which holds the wood panel to the console. Once the bottom of the wood panel is exposed the window switches have spring loaded clips on each end. Using your fingers compress the spring clips and push the switch upward out of the panel. The wiring simply unplugs from the switch. To reinstall the switch simply insert it into the wood panel and push down until the spring clips engage the wood panel. Finally, reinstall the wood panel into the console. Recommendation: if replacing the switch replace with a genuine Mercedes switch. After market switches often do not have an internal light like the original.
