Red plastic soft top opening switch cracked. 300 SL 1990
The red plastic casing over the switch for opening and closing the soft top has a small piece broken out of it. The switch still works perfectly but because of the crack the red plastic cover slips off whenever the roof is opened or closed.
Is it possible to buy a replacement red plastic switch cover or does the whole switch unit need to be renewed. I would be very grateful for any suggestions. |

I'd be surprised if you didn't have to buy the entire switch. Partshop probably sells it for $30 or less, and it is easy to replace.

I think replacing it would mean removing the centre consol which looks a bit tricky. But I may be wrong.

Clive is correct.
The wood over the console must be removed. But it is not difficult or time-consuming at all if you know how it is done. You simply remove the radio, the climate controller, and the felt-lined insert of the compartment below the radio. This last step reveals a pair of screws that secure the wood piece in place.

Thanks Bob I'll have a look tomorrow and see how I get on.
