Where Does the Water Go?

Trying to find a leak on the driver's side of my 380SL, I had someone pour water into the vent on the cowl. The leak turned out to be a missing wiper motor mounting bolt, which was allowing a gap where a flange attaches to the underside of the cowling.

But while I had my head under the dash, I could hear the water gurgling and it eventually ran out a hole in what looks like a channel in the floor pan underneath the car. Is this right, or is there some other path it should be taking?

And where is the water that gets in the side of the hood supposed to go? Is there a drain hole under the wiper motor or in that vicinity?

TIA

The gurgling sound you describe sounds like the water was winding its way down between the inner and outer fenders and out the bottom at the rear of the 1/4 panel. Yup, that's how it works - an interesting "design feature".

As for the water getting through the sides of the hood, good question. The flat area beneath the wiper fluid reservoir is a great spot for water to sit and create rust - I had a body shop clean up the rust under there and coat it with a product called Waxoil.
