Odometer repair 88 560SL

Well, I finally tackled the odo repair on my 88 560SL. I read about the procedure right here in this site and was ready to tackle the job. The threads refer mostly to the fact that the small gear becomes loose and quits driving the rest. Unfortunately that was not my case. The small gear was broken, a big chunk missing. It was clear that the gear had been glued with green loctite to the small metal sleeve that goes over the diving shaft and finally gave up the gohst and quit. My problem is how to proceed from here. I can send the unit for repair or exchange it. But what bothers me is that if I can find the gear it would be rather simple to install. I found a source for gears, but they require that I remove the sleeve first and I had no luck at that. I tried but I do not want to use a lot of force for fear of damaging the mechanism (maybe a little threadloker got in there) Any idea for gear sources (other than odometergears.com) or how to remove the sleeve?
Aslo, whileattemting to remove the left speakers two little clips fell out, where do they go and how are they installed?
