Bose upgrade for 129?

I've seen several posts about the 129 Bose system and I've always been very disappointed with the system in my '93. Is it worth the upgrade - does an upgrade exist? When was the Bose system introduced?

Cheers
Lea

Lea the Bose system is awesome if you have it built in. There is just so little room in our SL's, and the Bose system has been squeezed in very nicely. The subs fire rightinto the drivers seat, very nice.

It all works very well with an aftermarket head unit as well. I have a Pioneer DVD head unit and movies also sound nice.

Where do the subs actually live? In the rear seats, I just can't imagine where they're fitted.

Are there any changes to the front and door speakers?

My '95 has the Bose system. So I think it must be an option at least from '95 on.

The subs are mounted in the storage compartment behind the driver seat. Thus, if you have the Bose system, you lose that compartment for storage.

mmmm,

I don't have a storage compartment - I have seats. I wonder if it's still an option with seats?

Learoy, do you mean you have the optional back seat? I think you can remove the seat cushion, and see what is underneath. If there is a compartment under the back seat, that is where you will put the Bose system in. I think the area behind the front seats was designed as a compartment so I won't be suprised that there are two empty compartments underneath your optional rear seats.

When the Bose system was ordered ex-works, the rear seats were deleted, so may be it's not compatible with seats?

I know that if you haven't got seats you get a deck with a lid in it where the right hand rear seat base would otherwise be: there are details in the owner's manual.

The stock system is designed and made by Bose anyway, isn't it? Mine is fantastic with the Audio 30 head unit and fibre optic CD changer. I gather it is separately amped (the amp should be under the back seat). I find the sound amazingly clear and well separated and atmospheric and capable of playing at loud volumes.

To be honest the sound in my Peugeot Estate is better! The frequency response seems to roll off around 100Hz which is very poor - but separation and spatial quality isn't bad. However still poor in comparison to most modern upper model cars.

BTW - my amp is in the passenger foot well

Bose when where

My 94 sl-600 has factory 'Bose' system has MB label, but Bose all over it everywhere and Bose supplied a replacement speaker gratis.

I did have to have all 7 amps reworked. Bose used bad electrolytic capacitors in the amps and they all leaked after a while, causing amp failure.

Am I able to fix those amp problems myself, or should I send it out to fix?

I have a bose amp with the left front speaker only goes on when the volume is super high.
